Maintaining a healthy routine can be a challenge, especially when you're on the move. Whether you are traveling for work or holiday, it's important to prioritise your health and well-being. I understand the struggles and often struggle myself with staying on track, which is why I thought I would share my top tips that have helped me!

1. Plan ahead:
Before your travels begin, take a moment to plan your meals and snacks. You could even look up local restaurants or shops that offer healthy options in the area you'll be visiting. This will help ensure that you have nutritious choices readily available.
2. Pack smart and stay fuelled:
When traveling, it's easy to give in to unhealthy snack options especially when there are no healthy options available. To avoid this, try to pack your own snacks. Fresh fruits, nuts, homemade granola bars, or protein-rich snacks will keep you satisfied and help you avoid unhealthy temptations.
3. Remember to hydrate:
Traveling can often lead to dehydration, so always make it a priority to stay hydrated. A great tip is to take your own reusable water bottle with you and keep sipping on it throughout the day. Hydration is essential for optimal body function and can help curb cravings.
4. Make wise choices at restaurants:
When eating out, choose options that are grilled, baked, or steamed instead of fried. Ask for dressings and sauces on the side. Try stick to a balanced plate by filling half your plate with colourful vegetables, a quarter with lean protein and the other quarter with complex carbohydrates.
5. Practice portion control:
Being mindful of portion sizes is so important. It's easy to overeat when faced with new foods or large portions. Pay attention to your body's hunger and fullness cues, and eat until you are satisfied, not stuffed.
6. Stay active:
Find ways to include physical activity into your plans. Take a walk to explore your surroundings, choose the stairs instead of elevators, or maybe even consider a local gym class. Staying active not only helps burn calories but also helps boost your energy levels and enhances your overall well-being.
7. Prioritise sleep:
Adequate sleep is often something that is neglected, but it plays a very important role in maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Aim for a consistent sleep schedule, even when your surroundings change. Quality sleep promotes better decision-making and helps regulate your appetite.
8. Embrace mindful eating:
Take the time to truly enjoy your meals. Eat slowly and mindfully so that you can recognise when you're full and prevent overeating. Appreciate the flavours and be present in the moment.
9. Don't skip meals:
Even with a disrupted routine, it's important not to skip meals. Plan regular, balanced meals, even if the timing may differ from your usual routine. Even if a meal is abit off track, don't try compensate by skipping your next meal as this can lead to unhealthy food choices or excessive eating later on.
10. Be flexible and enjoy!
While health is important, it's also important to just enjoy your travels and time on holiday. Allow yourself the flexibility to indulge in moderation and savour new culinary experiences. Like I always say, everything in moderation and remember that health is about nourishing both your body and your soul!
