FOR THE COFFEE LOVERS

Studies show that moderate consumption of coffee (3-4 cups per day) may be associated with a lower risk of several chronic diseases, including type 2 diabetes, liver disease, and certain types of cancer. Coffee has also been linked to improved cognitive, athletic performance and mood.

However, excessive coffee intake can have negative effects on health, including increased heart rate and blood pressure, insomnia, and anxiety. Some people may also be more sensitive to the effects of caffeine than others, and excessive caffeine consumption can lead to jitteriness, restlessness, and other side effects.

To maximise the health benefits of coffee, avoid adding anything unhealthy to it. There are loads of additives that can dilute the taste and strength of coffee but these quickly add extra calories, sugar and unhealthy fat to your diet which cancels out any benefits associated with coffee.

Conclusion:

  • Moderate coffee consumption (3-4 cups per day) can be part of a healthy diet.

  • It is important to consider individual factors such as sensitivity to caffeine when deciding on a personal intake level.

  • Avoid adding sugar, artificial sweetener and full fat or sweetened milk. If you don't like your coffee black, you can add a dash of low-fat or unsweetened milk.

  • If you are considering adding coffee to your diet, remember that coffee should not be used as a replacement for a healthy diet.
